Latitudes

Several years ago I started this coat. But then we moved to a warmer climate (29 degrees N), so I didn't finish it. Until just yesterday. After considering what the weather might be like in London (51 degrees N), I decided it might come in handy. Jerusalem (32 degrees N) is only slightly farther north than Houston, so it will be somewhat mild. (Please someone tell me--how can I type a degree sign?)

The fabric and the lining cost about a dollar a yard. I bought polyester batting and quilted it to the black fabric. The pattern was from an old coat.

The buttons are for looks. My machine won't do buttonholes on this fabric and I didn't want to do them by hand either.

The real fasteners are nine large sew-on snaps.

Two More Days

I've got only two more days. Meanwhile here are some random pictures.

Blue Disposable Plastic Cups

I should have known something was up when I saw that Sharon had bought disposable plastic cups. That is so Un-like Sharon. She just isn't into disposable cups. It was also a little bit odd when she said that "everyone" was coming at 11:45. Why not 11:30 or 12:00? It was actually Mark, Mercy, Caleb, and Leah that came at 11:45, so I was totally surprised when a little later 20 or so more people suddenly showed up.
Wow! It was great! And all the cars parked up and down our little street made it seem like we're somebody ImPorTant. It felt really good, except then I realized this is all a good-bye party. Is there a word that means sad and happy at the same time?
We're going to Israel--what does that mean anyway. What a strange thing to do. On the other hand, perfectly logical. I don't know what to think. It's like a leap in the dark. No, more like jumping out of an airplane. The hard part is that my friends won't be there to share it with me. I'll have to get into this blogging and keep up with everybody. But isn't blogging sort of a Young People thing to do? It's hard for an old dog to learn new tricks. But I'll try. Yip-yip, woof, arf.

Peace

"David Dickson, once Professor of Divinity inEdinburgh, being asked, when on his deathbed, how he found himself answered, 'I have taken my good deeds and bad deeds, and thrown them together in a heap, and fled from them both to Christ, and in Him I have peace.' "

This Cuban Gold is in our backyard in Rosharon. I planted it about two years ago.

Al and Rebecca
The idea that two people can live happily together for a lifetime is
ILLOGICAL, IRRATIONAL, & ABSURD (and also true).
